Mediations & Seminars

Other Uses of Mediation

Mediation, as with Arbitration & all other types of Dispute Resolution, can be used almost ANYWHERE! We've successfully used mediations in many different types of situations and in several different forms.  BUT. . . most of the mediators in Louisiana and the surrounding areas have taken only the basic simple Civil Mediation & some of these plus some other mediators have learned simple Divorce & Parenting proceedings mediation. That is about all many of you have in your skill sets, & we're only referring to the type of proceeding or the setting of the mediation at that.
THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER TYPES OF MEDIATIONS, AS WELL AS USES OF THAT FORM OF DISPUTE RESOLUTION TECHNIQUE.
THERE ARE ALSO SEVERAL OTHER DISPUTE RESOLUTION TECHNIQUES WITH WHICH MEDIATORS SHOULD BE FAMILIAR AT LEAST - EVEN BETTER WOULD BE IF YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THEM, RIGHT?

What Styles of Mediation Should We Know?
Without going into any detail, most trained mediators know that there are generally 4 styles of mediation recognized by ADR authorities. These are:
  • Facilitative
  • Evaluative
  • Narrative
  • Transformative
We're not going into this subject now, but those mediators trained by Linda Liljedahl or her mentors, trainers & teachers are generally aware that basic mediation uses the 1st 3 styles the majority of the time, since these styles fit into mediation used to settle a problem or set of problems existing once (or not routinely) between/among parties. Transformative mediation is a style that requires special training, which Linda will provide in upcoming seminars. Its use is in some of the different forms of mediation, which will be the subjects of other upcoming seminars given by Linda Liljedahl.

Other Different Methods To Learn
It should be noted that there are many other uses of dispute resolution techniques in all kinds of human-related business and personal endeavours, most of which to learn well, we need to  take some seminars about these particular techniques to learn the necessary styles &/or practices, read other specialists' works & studies thereon and then attempt to use same in other areas of life. A limited list of these coming up in future seminars are:
  • Collaborative Civil Mediation
  • Collaborative Family Mediation
  • Workplace Mediation
  • Online Mediation
  • Virtual Mediation
  • Elder Mediation

Some of these are ADR practices in pure business pursuits, in work-related problems themselves, in mediations involving people located far from each other who wish to avail themselves to dispute resolution, in divorces in which the parties want to use "collaborative techniques", and in many other types of dispute resolution skills, including that well-known one, called Arbitration.
Linda Liljedahl has studied and practiced in all of these areas, and feels that it is time to start showing these skills & techniques to those who would wish to learn them in a conveniently-located place, i.e. her home office in Baton Rouge.  Linda had to travel all over the United States to receive these training seminars & learn these techniques from all different teachers & trainers, spending much more than most folks would wish.  But then Linda Liljedahl was learning these skills & practices to teach to others later, so that was her purpose. Why shouldn't you take advantage of this opportunity?

Watch This Space, er. . . Website
Please watch this website, as these new seminars will begin to be offered sometime around late summer/early fall of 2013 and continue thereon. At least 2 new seminars a year will be introduced, one featuring a civil type practice & another for family, if such a division is necessary. Very often the advanced skills to which we are referring are applicable in all areas of life & can be used accordingly.  Each seminar will be listed on the LSBA MCLE website and on this website. One will get a more detailed description of each seminar here, including the day(s) of the class, the skills & studies covered, any technical equipment needed, the credit to be obtained from each class, etc.  It should be assumed that anyone applying should have had the basic Civil and Parenting & Family Mediation Training required by the state statutes.
If anyone has any particular area of mediation in which they are particularly anxious to cover, please let us know. We can't promise we'll cover it first, but we will keep all requests in mind - as always. Meanwhile, keep your eyes on this website!
